Wow, 2012 is almost over. What an amazing, and somewhat crazy, year: presidential election, Summer Olympics, I graduated with my MLIS in the Spring, and the many other world-changing events that occurred (please insert mild sarcasm)!
So what are your New Year resolutions? This time of year always fills me with a sense of restlessness and momentum, of wanting to change, whether it be eating less and going to the gym more, deciding to save more money to buy a house or donate to charity, we all have something we would like to improve within ourselves. Change is never stagnant: what are some motivating factors to keep change moving all through the new year?
Involve other people around you, of course!
Being involved and invested in the community has always been a goal of mine, and fortunately I have been around some really inspirational people these last few years. Recently, I was selected to judge the Reel Life Film Festival, put on by the Stanislaus County of Education, in which kids in grades 6th-12th will compete by submitting videos based upon experiences in their after school programs. The theme is Choose Civility and can be in the form of animation, documentary, blockbuster, action, comedy or drama. Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary defines civility as "training in the humanities; courtesy, politeness; a polite act or expression." What are some acts of civility that you engaged in today? And how will students express it on screen? I am very curious and excited to see just how they handle the theme, and the fun they had along the way. The judging begins in the Spring 2013, and the Red Carpet event is May 15th at the State Theatre in Modesto. Hope you can make it! I will definitely post some photos of us dressed in our finest formal wear!
Cheers and best wishes to a successful and love-filled 2013!
